Joy

  1. Definition:
    1. 1828: The passion or emotion excited by the acquisition or expectation of good; that excitement of pleasurable feelings which is caused by success, good fortune, the gratification of desire or some good possessed, or by a rational prospect of possessing what we love or desire; gladness; exultation; exhilaration of spirits.
      1. Pleasurable (pleasant)
      2. Exultation (bliss)
      3. Exhilaration (rapture)
        1. Joy is to be in a state of happiness, and to show that in how you live.
  2. Quotes from Prophets:
    1. Joy is more than happiness. Joy is the ultimate sensation of well-being. It comes from being complete and in harmony with our Creator and his eternal laws.” (Dallin H. Oaks, General Conference, 1991)
      1. Joy is when we are in totally harmony with God. This is supreme happiness.
  3. Scriptures:
    1. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” (John 16:20)
      1. Sorrow is the opposite of joy. In the act of enduring through sorrow, we can gain true joy.
  4. Personal Definition:
Joy is to be happy. But not only happy, but eternally blissful, a state of rapture. True joy can only be achieved through enduring through sorrow.
