Integrity

  1. Definition:
    1. 1828: The entire, unimpaired state of any thing, particularly of the mind; moral soundness or purity; incorruptness; uprightness; honesty. integrity comprehends the whole moral character, but has a special reference to uprightness in mutual dealings, transfers of property, and agencies for others.
      1. Incorruptness (probity)
      2. Uprightness (rectitude)
      3. Honesty (morality)
        1. Integrity is the attribute of being honest and living, at all times, by sound principles and self-government.
  2. Quotes from Prophets:
    1. “I have felt impressed to speak today about the need for integrity—old-fashioned, personal, practical integrity. To me, integrity means always doing what is right and good, regardless of the immediate consequences. It means being righteous from the very depth of our soul, not only in our actions but, more importantly, in our thoughts and in our hearts. Personal integrity implies such trustworthiness and incorruptibility that we are incapable of being false to a trust or covenant.” (Joseph B. Wirthlin, General Conference, April 1990)
      1. Integrity is essential for a decent, good, just society. Integrity is being willing to make the right choice and the right time, no matter what.
  3. Scriptures:
    1. “And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.” (Job 2:3)
      1. Job is the perfect example of sure integrity. No matter what happened to him, he still always did the right thing.
  4. Personal Definition:
Integrity is being willing to do, and doing the right thing at “all times, in all things, and in all places”. It is essential to a righteous community. Without integrity, there would be nothing good.
