There is a temporary cessation of hostilities. There is a temporary supply of provisions. In times of great danger, Rome appointed a temporary dictator.

- Temporary things are things that don’t last. The exist only for a short or limited time.

- Temporary things are dangerous to place value on. If you give up essential things for their temporary counterparts, you will end up with neither.

- In contrast, if you give up temporary things, or give up non-essential things temporarily, then you will end up in a better place than you were before.
