Service

  1. Definition:
    1. 1828: In a general sense, labor of body or of body and mind, performed at the command of a superior, or the pursuance of duty, or for the benefit of another. service is voluntary or involuntary. Voluntary service is that of hired servants, or of contract, or of persons who spontaneously perform something for another's benefit. Involuntary service is that of slaves, who work by compulsion.

      3. Involuntary (uncontrollable)
        1. Service is the application of labor. It can be either by your choice, or it can be forced on you. Either way, it is “service”.

      1. Service, of the voluntary kind, is rewarding and awesome.

      1. Service is what life is for. To learn to put others before yourself. It is the duty placed on us by God.
  3. Scriptures:
    1. “And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.” (Mosiah 2:17)
      1. God’s work and glory is found in us. When we help each other, we help our God. Also we see that this is the wise thing to do. It is wisdom.
  4. Personal Definition:
Service is when you voluntarily help others without an expectation of worldly gain or recognition. It will, however, bring you more of both worldly and heavenly blessings. When we serve others, we serve God.
